
Charles Altieri

Charles F. Altieri is Professor Emeritus of English at the University of California, Berkeley, where he held the Rachael Anderson Stageberg Endowed Chair. Over a distinguished 53‑year career, he specialized in twentieth‑ and twenty‑first‑century American and British poetry, with a strong interdisciplinary interest in philosophy, affect, visual arts, and literary theory. A Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship, Altieri is the author of numerous monographs, including Wallace Stevens and the Demands of Modernity and The Particulars of Rapture. He retired from teaching in 2021.
