Ashton Nichols is the Walter E. Beach ’56 Distinguished Chair Emeritus in Sustainable Studies and Professor Emeritus of English Language and Literature at Dickinson College. His scholarship bridges Romantic literature, environmental humanities, and urbanature—a concept he developed to explore the entwined relationship between city and nature. Nichols has published extensively on British Romantic poets, including Wordsworth and Coleridge, and on the cultural history of nature. A passionate advocate for interdisciplinary learning, he continues to write and speak on literature’s role in environmental awareness. His work invites readers to rethink the boundaries between human culture and the natural world.
