The following evidence is published here for the first time. Murray MS., John Barrow to JM, 24 May 1813, proposes an article on this subject. Murray MS., WG to JM, [3? 5? July 1813 postmark]: 'I have heard nothing from Mr Barrow ....' Murray MS., Barrow to JM, 23 July 1813, sends his article on the national fishery. The article is referred to in #260, which is also by Barrow. It was Barrow's signature practice in his QR articles to refer to his own works. The article is one in a series by Barrow in which dry rot is discussed. The series includes #208, #245, #260, #280, #297, #320, #328, #514, #704, and #341WI. The article's author has access to Admiralty records (p.302). BL MS. 34611 (f.143), Barrow to Macvey Napier, 22 Dec. 1814, discusses submitting to Encyclopaedia Britannica an article on the British fishery (Macvey Napier was editor of the Supplement). All Barrow can promise is to 'new mould' his information 'and put it into a more popular shape.'

The following evidence is published here for the first time. Shine misses useful evidence by not quoting the full sentence in Murray MS., WG to JM, [3? 5? July 1813 postmark]: 'I have also inclosed for the printer Mr Rose's article & that on Drummond [#248] ....' BL MS. 28099 (f.115), WG to George Ellis, 30 June 1813 [5 July 1813 postmark]: 'Rose has sent his m.s. He is really an acquisition; & fortunately seems to have leisure for us.' Smiles I 243, 243n (cited in Shine) quotes from JM to Walter Scott, 18 July 1813: 'In confidence I may tell you that your long silence led us to avail ourselves of your friend Mr. Rose's offer to review Ferriar, and his article is already printing.'

The following evidence is published here for the first time. Devon MS. 1149M (f.104), WG to Edward Copleston, 12 Feb. 1812, wishes that John Eveleigh (Provost of Oriel College, Oxford), or someone, would review Sir William Drummond's 'Religius Iudaicus.' [sic] Heber I 394: Reginald Heber to John Thornton, May 1813, says he offered to review Drummond's Oedipus Judaicus, but D'Oyly has instead answered him in a pamphlet, which a third party has offered to review in QR.
A review of Hamilton's Aegyptiaca in ER #573, Aug. 1811, by William Drummond and Henry Brougham, contains some of the ideas D'Oyly found objectionable in Drummond's writings.

Some of the following evidence was first published in VPR 28; some is published here for the first time. Derby MS. D3155M / C5927, WG to Robert John Wilmot, 10 Dec. 1812, says he is willing to publish Wilmot's article on Leckie (referred to in this article passim) if Wilmot is willing to revise it. Murray MS., JM to WG, 25 Apr. 1813 [copy], says he has an article on the Cossacks by Heber [this letter is quoted by Shine under #237]. The following evidence, introduced in VPR 28 to support an attribution of #251 to George Miller, instead supports an attribution of #170WI to Miller. Southampton MS. WP1/941/13, George Miller to Arthur Wellesley, 14 July 1828, in recommending himself for a vacant bishopric in Ireland, Miller states he performed a service to government in his QR article on the relations of Turkey and Russia.

Murray MS., WG to JM, [20 May 1813; pencil notation on letter: '?Art in No. 181 on Paley by Dr Whitaker.']: 'I enclose a letter ... for Dr <W> .... I have desired the Dr to look at our former Art & at the new Edition of Paley's life and if he thinks that the additions justify a new art. I have told him that is just what we desire.'
The following evidence was first published in VPR 24. Murray MS., Thomas Dunham Whitaker to JM, 24 Apr. 1813, offers to review 'Paley.' On page 389, the article's author refers back to #39, which is attributed to George D'Oyly. Compare the characterization of a Cambridge University education as a 'forcing system' with a similar sentiment in #234 (p.30), which is also by Whitaker.

The following evidence was first published in VPR 24. Olinthus Gregory was mathematical master at Woolwich Academy from 1802. He succeeded the eminent Charles Hutton as professor of mathematics there, 1807-38. The article is an extended encomium. See p.418 where Gregory is mentioned as Hutton's collaborator. The article is referred to at pp.97-100 of #73, which is also by Gregory. See also #103 and #186 where Gregory's role in the QR is discussed.

The following evidence is published here for the first time. Murray MS., John Barrow to JM, 10 June 1812, states that he is working on this article. Murray MS., Cash Day Book, 1810-13, p. 42, dated Saturday 29 May 1813: 'Quarterly Review / Krusensterns Voyage Dr [i.e., debit] / 1 copy to Barrow / Langsdorfs Voyage to J. B. Esq.' The article's author refers back to #170, which is also by Barrow, and pp.433-35 is a defence of it. The author of #299, Barrow, states on page 285 that the article continues from #255. It was Barrow's signature practice in his QR articles to refer to his own works. Articles #132 and #231, by different hands, are also referred to.

The following evidence was first published in VPR 24. The first sentence of this article refers back to #200, which is also probably by Merivale. Pg.360n of #200 mentions Giovanni Villani. On page 26n of #283, also on Italy, article #200 is referred to. That article's authorship is uncertain. Characteristically of Merivale, the author does not use Roman numerals in dignitaries' titles—Pope John the Twenty-second, Emperor Frederick the Second etc. (though he does write 'Boniface VIII,' which, if not simply an inconsistency, may be a printer's variant).

Devon MS. 1149M (no folio no.), WG to Edward Copleston, 14 Sept. 1811, 'an unpleasant accident has just called off one of my friends, who had engaged for a Review of Malcolm's India.' [The work alluded to, Malcolm's 'Sketch,' first published in Asiatic Researches, is mentioned in article #258.] Murray MS., John Barrow to JM, 5 May 1813: he expresses an interest in reviewing Malcolm's book on the Sikhs. Punjab is spelled in the article's head note as above.

BL MS. 31022 (f.16), WG to William Stuart Rose, 27 Feb. 1813: 'I had hoped that by this I might have announced to you the appearance of our Review; but our friend G. Ellis, contrary to his usual practice, has delayed us by his review of Scott.'
