Alex Benchimol

Alex Benchimol is a Senior
Lecturer in English Literature at the University of Glasgow.
His books include the recent monograph Intellectual
Politics and Cultural Conflict in the Romantic Period: Scottish Whigs,
English Radicals and the Making of the British Public Sphere

(2010), and the essay collection, Spheres of Influence:
Intellectual and Cultural Publics From Shakespeare to Habermas

(2007), edited with Willy Maley. He has also published articles on Romantic
period culture in Nineteenth-Century Contexts,
Textual Practice, and most recently, The Edinburgh Companion to Scottish Romanticism. He is
currently working on a monograph project, Printing
Enlightenment: The National Press and Public Sphere in
Eighteenth-Century Scotland
