Buonaparte's Title to the Emperor of the French vindicated
Anon
The Meteor (February 1, 1814), p. 290

A FRENCHMAN'S chief merit, all history reveals,
Has ever been reckon'd to lie in his heels!
A most needful perfection for warriors who fight ill;
And if excellence give a just claim to the title,
The Emperor of Frenchmen by right should be one,
Who, when beaten in fight, all his host can outrun;
Whence 'tis clear that Napoleon their sceptre should sway,
Who has thrice foil'd all rivals—in running away!
