1795.20
Song
Anon
The Tomahawk (November 3, 1795)

To the Tune of Nancy Dawson.

I.

Old England's glory I will boast,
Old England's health I still will toast;
And here's to him that vaunts the most
    The glory of Old England.

II.

French Democrats may boast their fill,
And seek their monarch's blood to spill;
I hope God's providence will still
    Preserve great George of England!

III.

I've been in Italy and Spain,
I've been in France, and in Lorrain,
Yet none of these, I will maintain,
    Is like unto Old England.

IV.

The Fruitful Poland, Frozen Russ,
Industrious Holland, Warlike Pruss,
Not one of all is like to us,
    The freeborn Sons of England.

V.

It is not in wild anarchy,
Which Levellers call Liberty;
But in a well-pois'd monarchy,
    Consists the good of England.

VI.

Let's study in our fathers schools,
Religion, morals, and good rules,
And drink damnation to those fools
    Who'd breed Revolt in England!
