314. Robert Southey to George Strachey, 11 May 1798 *

My dear Strachey
I learn from Wynn that you are shortly about to quit the kingdom, so shortly indeed that I shall not see you before your departure. but you must not go without receiving my wishes for your welfare. little intimate as we have been of late years, I have always thought of you with affection – & feel now that I am losing a friend.
I have desired Cottle to forward my book [1] to you immediately. it will not occupy much room in your luggage, & it may sometimes remind you of one who will often think of you as his earliest friend.
God bless you Strachey. & may you return from India with as uncorrupted a heart as you will carry there!
