1367. Robert Southey to Charles Watkin Williams Wynn, 3 October 1807

1367. Robert Southey to Charles Watkin Williams Wynn, 3 October 1807 *

My dear Wynn

Still no news of Bedford. [1]  If you know any thing of him pray let me know, for I am exceedingly uneasy about him. It is not strange that he has not written to me, for he knows not that I am expecting him. – but it is very str what has become of him I cannot guess. If he has found himself too ill to come on here, much less can he <have> been able to return to London.

I wrote to Harry Bedford telling him that when Grosvenor arrived I should endeavour to detain him as long as I could. [2]  This is so long since that if he had returned to London I should by this time in all likelihood have learnt it.

Poor Horace has seems to me to have been the victim of his fathers indecision concerning him. Had he been settled to some employment or profession his intellect might not have suffered first – nor his health afterwards. – Grosvenor it is to be feared will soon follow him, – & what a world of chearful remembrances which you & I have concerning him will then be saddened & made painful!

God bless you
