1289. Robert Southey to Samuel Reid, 15 March 1807 *
Keswick. March 15. 1807.
Dear Reid
As I do not know whether you are still at Liverpool or not, – & consequently whether this may reach you, all I will say is – that if you can find leisure to pass a few weeks at Keswick I shall be very, very, glad to see you, & show you this beautiful country. We have a boat which it is time to launch for the fine weather season, – the summit of Skiddaw is less than three hours walk from our door, – & you will find store of books for wet weather. – The long coach sleeps at Kendal, which is thirty miles from hence – in the course of which you pass by the side of four Lakes. If you are as good a walker as you used to be this will be no very hard days walk – if it is too much, the coach goes on to Penrith which is only 17 1/2 , & in that case Keswick Lake will be the first you will see.
Edith & Mrs Lovell desire to be remembered to you.
Yrs very truly
Robert Southey
