August 2. 1819.

My Lord

A long standing engagement takes me into Scotland next week, to visit the Caledonian Canal, with Mr Telford & Mr Rickman. [1]  Both my companions being men of business, my absence will not be long, – & it will give me great pleasure to obey your Lordships summons should I return in time.

I am My Lord

with great respect

yr Lordships obliged & obedient Servt

Robert Southey.
