2417. Robert Southey to Thomas Southey, 8 May 1814

2417. Robert Southey to Thomas Southey, 8 May 1814 *

Sunday. May 8. 1814.

My dear Tom

I will rather write ill news, than have to relate it when we meet. This post has brought xxx with it a heavy grief. Danvers is dead. [1]  He died in London, after an illness which did not appear dangerous till it became suddenly xxxx so. The body was opened, & one of the intestines was found considerably enlarged, – of course no human means could have averted the catastrophe. – Out of my own family there is no person whose life I should feel more; – scarcely any whom I xx xxx should regret so much.

God bless you

RS.
